Kerry Tymchuk decided to put his life in Jeopardy! In April 2009, he left politics to become a Principal at Conkling Fiskum & McCormick. He works on corporate communications and reputation management issues for CFM clients.
He served as State Director to U.S. Senator Gordon Smith (R-Ore) from 1997 to early 2009. In that position Kerry Tymchuk earned a bi-partisan reputation for effectiveness and integrity. A native of Reedsport, Oregon, Kerry is a 1981 graduate of Willamette University, and a 1984 graduate of Willamette University School of Law.
From 1984 to 1985, Kerry served as a Deputy District Attorney for Marion County, Oregon. Kerry moved to Washington, D.C. in 1985, upon accepting a position as Legal Counsel and Communications Director to Congressman Denny Smith.
Kerry left Congressman Smith’s office in 1989 to serve as Director of Speechwriting and Special Assistant to United States Secretary of Labor Elizabeth Dole. Kerry served in that capacity until Mrs. Dole left the Cabinet in December 1990. From January 1991 to July 1996, Kerry served as Legal Counsel and Director of Speechwriting to United States Senate Republican Leader Bob Dole.
Throughout this period, Kerry also served as a communications consultant to Mrs. Dole, in her capacity as President of the American Red Cross. Upon Senator Dole’s resignation from the Senate, Kerry joined the Dole for President campaign as a senior advisor to both Senator and Mrs. Dole.
A four-time champion on the popular television game show “Jeopardy!,” Kerry also is the co-author of Bob and Elizabeth Dole’s autobiography, “Unlimited Partners: Our American Story.” He assisted Bob Dole in the writing of two other books: “Great Political Wit” and “Great Presidential Wit,” and he assisted Elizabeth Dole in the writing of her book, “Hearts Touched With Fire.” Kerry joined with Columbia Sportswear Chairman Gert Boyle in co-authoring her autobiography, “One Tough Mother.”
He also worked with former Louisiana-Pacific CEO Harry Merlo in writing his autobiography, “Vintage Merlo.”
Kerry and his wife, Becky, live in Beaverton and are the parents of two children, Kate and Clark.
